The proposed development includes demolishing the current Salvation Army building and the construction of a 5-story building and a 3-story building on the site. The intent is to continue the current services which are being provided at this site including an overnight shelter for single women and families, medical and dental services, and offices. They will also be applying for WHEDA tax credits to help construct 70 units of affordable & market rate housing. Approximately 81 grade-level parking spaces are proposed.
The developers were expected to begin the City approval process in the summer of 2017, but not file for the affordable housing funds until later in 2017. If approved, the project would likely not begin construction until later in 2018. However, as of the fall of 2017, the SA is reportedly working with their national and/or regional offices to refine and possibly revamp their plan for the site.
