Preservation of the Historic Character of the Neighborhood

Issue: One of the unique qualities of the neighborhood is its historiccharacter. Remodeling of some of the older homes in the neighborhood has resulted in the removal of details and porches, as well as the coveringof original materials and details with asbestos or aluminum siding. Remodelingthat is sensitive to the original design of a structure will continue tobenefit the overall historic appearance of the neighborhood.

Goal 3: Enhance the physical environment of the neighborhood by improvingthe physical infrastructure and streetscape.
1. Investigate measures to spruce up the overall aesthetics of residentialand commercial areas, especially E. Johnson and E. Gorham corridor. Pridein a neighborhood is many times measured by the overall visual appearanceof buildings and properties. For example, planting trees, shrubs, andflowers in the street terrace; designing a natural buffer between commercialand residential properties; and ensuring that public and private buildingsand grounds are well-kept will improve the overall image of the neighborhood.
