Original Plat for Tenney Park Preservation of the Historic Character of the Neighborhood
Issue: One of the unique qualities of the neighborhood is its historiccharacter. Remodeling of some of the older homes in the neighborhood has resulted in the removal of details and porches, as well as the coveringof original materials and details with asbestos or aluminum siding. Remodelingthat is sensitive to the original design of a structure will continue tobenefit the overall historic appearance of the neighborhood. GOAL RECOMMENDATION IMPLEMENTATION Goal 4: Preserve and upgrade the residential and commercial historic structures as a valuable community asset. 1. Identify areas in which a significant number of historic structures exist, establish these areas as a local historic district, and encourage the preservationof structures located in the district. Neighborhood property owners willwork with the Department of Planning & Development Historic PreservationSection to establish historic district(s) and design guidelines for alterationsand new construction. The possibility of designating sections of bothOld Market Place and Tenney-Lapham neighborhoods as local historic districtsshould be fully explored and evaluated for its potential to preserve thehistoric character of the neighborhood. TLOMP Neighborhood Associations, Historic Preservation Section, State Historical Society 2. Nominate eligible buildings, structures, and properties, such as TenneyPark, Yahara River Parkway, and Breese Stevens Field to the National Registerof Historic Places.
